Maybe this book wasn’t quite as applicable to my situation, my marriage ended due to infidelity and we reconciled after three years apart.I didn’t find a lot of what was contained in this book to be all that helpful. Maybe because in a lot of ways I’d already mourned the end of my marriage when we reconciled I wasn’t approaching it from a place of complete overwhelm. Maybe the repetitive nature of the text helps to anchor newly cheated on spouses, but for me, it didn’t serve any purpose or tell me anything we weren’t already doing.I didn’t like that some of the language could be quite triggering for the wounded partner, though. Playing up the cheating spouse’s feelings of infatuation or heightened levels of physical pleasure from an affair probably don’t do much to soothe bruised egos and promote healing. This book helped me quite a bit. After reading other books on healing after an affair, I kept going back to this one. While you want to beg and plead for your spouse to come back to you, her advice was dead on and worked. While you want your issue to be resolved right away, the hardest part was to be patient. It’s important to shift your focus on yourself and make improvements where you can for YOU. By being clingy to your spouse and pleading with them to work things out, you are driving them further away. I’ve learned from this book that you need to give them their space to figure things out on their own. When they once thought they were in love with their affair partner, they’ll eventually come to the realization of what it really is and hopefully make their way back to you and your family. I highly recommend this book.
